Sometimes a continuous wall color in a room can make it feel a little blah. Every once in a while, you just need a bold punch of color to liven up a space! This color block wall will do just that with very little effort.

BLACK
To start with, you’ll want to choose what paint colors you want to use. To do this, I painted samples of various shades on my wall.
I knew I wanted black to be on the wall for sure. For that reason, I painted a sample in the middle of the wall, then painted samples of other colors around it. In the end, I went with Black and Sparkling Emerald.
Start with the lighter shade of paint you are using and pour it into the paint tray. Mask off the baseboard trim with painter’s tape. Using a good paintbrush, brush the paint along all the edges of the wall first. After painting around the trim and edges, roll the paint onto the walls with your roller. Apply a second coat, if needed, after the first coat has dried.
Immediately remove the painter’s tape after you apply the final coat of paint
After letting the first paint color dry for at least 24 hours, use a measuring tape and measure over on the wall how far you want your second color of paint to come. This can be any measurement of your choosing. I opted to bring in my second color a little more than halfway over on the wall at 36”. Make multiple marks with a pencil along the wall at the measurement of your choosing.
Using a long level, place it along the marks you made on the wall and draw a line vertically along the level to connect the marks. Using delicate surface painter’s tape (because your paint job is so fresh), run a strip of tape right along the line you just drew. Be sure to firmly press your fingers along the edges of the tape to seal it and prevent paint bleed.
Pour your other paint color into the tray. Once more, use your paintbrush to paint along the trim and edges of the wall first. Then, roll your paint color onto the wall, making sure to not go past your tape line onto the previous color you just painted on.
